Environmental advocates like Bekah Hinojosa from the South Texas Environmental Justice Network have voiced worries. They fear that increased development may jeopardize habitats and contribute to environmental destruction, impacting both wildlife and the community.

Reflecting on the potential implications, Hinojosa expressed apprehension about the impact of expanded rocket operations, which could disrupt nature and shake the homes nearby.

The name “Starbase” was first suggested by Musk during a visit in 2019, and since then, community leaders have pushed for city status, highlighting that SpaceX already provides crucial infrastructure support like roads and medical services. Their aim is to ensure that these enhancements benefit the local populace while promising to tackle environmental challenges.

Tensions also exist around access to Boca Chica Beach, which has been a cherished location for many local families for generations. Activists argue that SpaceX has limited access to this beach, raising concerns over future restrictions as the company expands.
