In a world where every snapshot tells a story, the annual National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition brings forth the richness of our planet through the eyes of talented photographers. Celebrating the Art of Photography

This year’s National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition showcased stunning imagery from both amateur and professional photographers across the UK and Ireland. Participants submitted their best travel photos, stirring emotions and carving out a glimpse into their adventures over the past year.

Winners and Their Stories

The competition featured six categories: People, City Life, Landscape, Wildlife, Food, and Portfolio. Among the standout contributions, Scott Antcliffe’s captivating image of Singapore’s enchanting garden won the City Life category. Excited to capture the quieter beauty of this bustling city, Scott journeyed to this location early in the morning. As he stood there, the lush greenery surrounded him, and the sight of the majestic Yellow Rain Tree left him awestruck.

Taking home the Grand Prize was Justin Cliffe, who beautifully documented a moment in Vietnam. His poignant image captured an elderly woman embroidering at her doorstep alongside her great-granddaughter. This image not only reflects the incredible bond between generations but also highlights a cherished tradition that remains alive through intricate embroidery skills passed down through family lines.

In the Wildlife category, Victoria Andrews captured a thrilling moment in Spain as a fox pursued an owl. Her captivating photograph, taken during one of the hottest summers in Toledo, showcases the breathtaking beauty of nature in action. Arriving at dawn and witnessing an elegant Bonelli’s eagle, she patiently captured the moment as the fox got closer and closer, creating a snapshot that felt almost magical.

Pawel Zygmunt’s breathtaking aerial view of the Hveravellir geothermal area in Iceland won the Landscape category. His drone captured the deep sapphire-blue pools that seemed to pulse with the raw energy of nature, resembling an eye gazing into the depths of the earth.

Additionally, lovely runner-up photos added charm to the competition, including Jo Noon’s capture of snow buntings flitting over a wintry landscape in Canada.

Another runner-up in the Wildlife category featured a rare female lynx drinking from a pond, a mesmerizing moment captured by Hari Kumar Prasannakumar. The interplay of a curious honey bee buzzing nearby added a playful twist to this enchanting scene.

A Heartfelt Conclusion

With 18 finalists selected from an impressive number of entries, this year’s competition illuminated the extraordinary skill and creativity found in travel photography. Each image tells a story worth sharing, reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us daily. “These photographers have truly elevated the level of travel photography,” noted contest judge Pat Riddell.
