It was a stormy night in the village of Siyathi when Rocky, a spirited dog, refused to settle down. As the rain poured down on June 26th, he decided it was time to alert his owner, Lalit Kumar, who was deep in slumber.

Disturbingly persistent, Rocky’s urgent barking cut through the sound of the rain and thunder. Waking in confusion, Lalit sensed something was truly amiss. As he made his way downstairs, a dreadful sight awaited him: a large crack in the wall, with water rapidly seeping in.

The sight would be alarming for anyone, but it was only moments later that Lalit understood the full extent of the danger. Looking outside, he was met with an overwhelming sight—a wall of mud and debris tumbling down the mountainside toward their home.

Panic surged through him, but Lalit quickly grasped his furry companion and sprang into action. With heart-pounding urgency, he ran through the streets, waking neighbors and urging them to escape to higher ground. His voice echoed through the night, encouraging 22 families to gather and flee their homes.

Just moments after they evacuated, the landslide crashed into the village, devastating 12 out of the 17 homes. Thanks to Rocky’s unwavering loyalty and quick instincts, every single one of the 67 villagers in Siyathi was safe.
