In a glorious celebration of community spirit, Denver recently transformed into a lively gathering of togetherness with the first-ever “Mile Long Table.” This heartwarming event brought together over 3,400 locals, showcasing the remarkable connections that can blossom over shared meals.

Hosted by Longer Tables, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering connections through shared meals, the event, measuring a staggering 5,280 feet, was held on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. The air buzzed with anticipation as local farmers provided fresh produce to accompany a feast that was not just a meal but a communal experience.
Tim Jones, the founder of Longer Tables, expressed his joy, stating, “The community response has been incredibly positive. It’s heartwarming to see people from various backgrounds eager to connect.” His commitment to building meaningful relationships through food resonates with everyone present.
Setting up this monumental table required the hard work and dedication of countless volunteers, who ensured that everything ran smoothly. The event, aptly named after Denver’s nickname as the “Mile High City,” was a sight to behold.

Adding a special touch, Southwest Airlines surprised ten lucky guests with roundtrip tickets, allowing them to reunite with loved ones over a joyful meal. The airline thoughtfully covered lodging, ensuring these connections flourished in the vibrant setting of the Mile Long Table.
Among the attendees, Kim Evans traveled all the way from Philadelphia to reconnect with Hannah Kahan, a friend who recently graduated from the University of Denver. Kim reflected on the experience, calling it a “truly a blessing” and reveling in the new friendships she forged along the way.
Not only did attendees savor the delicious food, but they also soaked in the lively atmosphere. Lexi Muller, a senior manager at Southwest Airlines, noted, “The energy was infectious. Community is more than a place; it’s what ties us all together.”
Diana Samet, one of the diners, expressed her delight, stating, “The warm spirit of togetherness and the opportunity to meet so many new faces was wonderful.”
