At Grosmont Station, nestled in the heart of the stunning North Yorkshire Moors, there’s a unique addition to the railway team. Not only do the trains run through picturesque landscapes, but they also boast the enchanting presence of three feline friends on the payroll.

When the beloved mouser of the station passed away, the railway knew they had to find replacements soon. Thus began the search for new helpers. One day, while wandering nearby, the staff stumbled upon a trio of black stray cats huddled together. With their bright eyes and playful spirits, Titch, Clinker, and Ash instantly won hearts.

These little bundles of fur weren’t just meant for catching mice; they were also destined to be the station’s charming mascots. As they settled into their new home, they began their training with enthusiasm, practicing their stealth skills around twigs and acorns, turning the station into their playful playground.

Surrounded by the lush landscapes of Moors National Park, these cats took on their duties as official mousers, keeping the station free of pesky rodents. “We’ve always had cats around to help control the rodent population, and they bring joy to our visitors,” shared Simon Wall, the station shop supervisor. “It’s lovely to see how well they fit into our community.”

Every morning, Titch, Clinker, and Ash parade through the station with an air of confidence, eagerly awaiting breakfast from Simon. The regulars adore them, often stopping to share a kind word or a gentle scratch behind the ears. When things get a little chaotic, their cozy cat house serves as a retreat, offering warmth, soft beds, and even a little snack — a purr-fect hideaway!

In that little cat house, they’re not just resting on their laurels; they’re resting in the company of past champions. Pictures and awards adorn the walls, a testament to the legacy of their predecessors, showcasing the special bond between the railway and its feline guardians.

As the seasons change, and trains whistle through the moors, Titch, Clinker, and Ash remain a delightful symbol of companionship, community, and second chances at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Their journey from street strays to beloved station mascots is a cherished story, reminding everyone of the warmth that comes when you welcome new friends into your life.
