However, among the hustle and bustle, a pressing issue loomed—access to healthcare.

Ity Pandey, the division manager with nearly three decades of experience, recognized the struggles of her workforce. Many employees lived in remote areas, far from hospitals, making regular medical check-ups and timely treatment almost impossible. Heartfelt tales of employees and their families traveling long distances for basic healthcare deeply moved Ity.

“I realized that we needed a solution to ensure our workers got the medical attention they deserved,” she recalled. With that thought simmering in her mind, an imaginative idea sprouted: a hospital on wheels!

Transforming an unused first-class train coach into a mobile medical facility, Ity and her team equipped it with essential healthcare tools—a lab for blood tests, ECG machines, and treatment rooms, all wrapped in a coat of cheerful paint adorned with vibrant flowers.

The newly christened “Rudra” train coach began its journey, weaving through the railway division like a guardian angel. Each patient treated on board received a unique ID, allowing seamless follow-ups at the main hospital in Bhusawal whenever necessary.

From its debut, Rudra made an impressive impact. In just one day, it reached out to 259 individuals, 159 of whom were railway employees. It became a vital resource for families grappling with common ailments like anemia and high blood sugar.

Ity’s project didn’t just enhance healthcare; it reinforced a sense of community. Families felt a renewed connection to their work environment, knowing that their health was a priority.
