Brandon Mejia, a 22-year-old from Maryland, transformed his disappointment into determination, crafting a unique solution that not only protects his deliveries but also inspires others.

Brandon’s story begins when a special necklace meant for his mother’s Day was stolen right before he could retrieve it from the porch. The incident left him feeling frustrated and upset, highlighting a growing problem that many face in the era of online shopping. Instead of allowing this setback to deter him, he resolved to create a better way to secure his packages.

His research led him to explore various commercial options, but he quickly discovered that the available secure boxes were either too complex or pricier than he was willing to spend. With a background in welding, Brandon decided to team up with his father to build a solution that was both functional and budget-friendly.

For just $100, they purchased stainless steel and armed themselves with tools and creativity to craft a custom box. The result? A sturdy delivery box equipped with an innovative automatic locking mechanism. As packages are dropped inside, the lid closes and locks securely, only to be opened with a personal four-digit code set by Brandon himself.

“We’ve been using the box since December 2024, and it’s been fantastic,” Brandon shared proudly. Over the months, he noted how about 15 packages had been delivered without any issues—a true turnaround from his initial experience.

Brandon explained a bit about the building process, revealing how he meticulously cut the metal, welded it together to ensure it was waterproof, and painted it black to maintain a low profile. He even added delivery company logo stickers to help guide delivery drivers to the new solution.

Unlike many of the lightweight commercial options on the market, which thieves might easily carry away, Brandon’s design embraced weight and sturdiness, ensuring it stands firm against theft.
