Sometimes, the most heartwarming stories emerge from the genuine compassion of individuals aiming to make a difference. This tale highlights the incredible journey of a nonprofit that, for 40 years, has been spreading joy and dignity to families in need through remarkable acts of kindness.
This journey began four decades ago when the nonprofit organization, originally known as Kids In Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), first opened its doors. Founded by the passionate trio of Karen Bromley, Barbara Toback, and Ezra Dabah, their mission was simple but profound: find a way to deliver new products to families struggling with poverty and hardship.
Their groundbreaking approach started with a straightforward question posed to various charities: “Would you prefer financial assistance, or would you rather receive new goods?” To their delight, the unanimous answer was clear: new products.
For Karen, this mission resonated on a deeply personal level. Having experienced the foster care system in her youth, she understood that for children in shelters or living in poverty, receiving a new coat or a toy wasn’t just a gift – it was a message. “It’s about feeling special,” she reflected. “It says, ‘You matter.’”

Fast forward twenty years, and in the wake of the catastrophic Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, industry leader Allan Ellinger was moved to step in. Witnessing the devastation through the news, he realized that while monetary donations were helpful, what families truly needed was immediate aid—something tangible right away.
“I was in a community flooded with products—clothing, shoes, and home goods,” Allan shared. With a few phone calls, the fashion industry quickly rallied together, and before long, thousands of brand-new items were shipped to the Gulf Coast.
This initiative bloomed into Fashion Delivers, focusing on providing vital goods to adults impacted by disasters. In its inaugural year, the organization successfully shipped an impressive $6 million in new products.
As both organizations operated with the same heart, they found common ground and eventually merged, dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves dignity and support in their times of need.

Over the years, this collaborative effort has blossomed into a beacon of hope, responding to myriad natural disasters, from hurricanes to wildfires. Their partnerships with brands and retailers are instrumental in diverting surplus goods from landfills and directly into the hands of those who need them most.
Thanks to trustworthy community partners—local nonprofits that expertly distribute these items—Delivering Good ensures that every product reaches those who need it. “We began with a simple goal of addressing a pressing issue,” Allan commented. “We never anticipated still being here, thriving and impactful after 40 years.”
Looking ahead, current President & CEO Matthew Fasciano emphasizes their vision for the future, aiming to innovate and scale their efforts further: “Our goal is to enhance 50 million lives in the years to come.”
It’s not just about giving clothing; it’s about offering a sense of normalcy and hope—a fresh start for those who have lost so much. To learn more or to contribute, visit Delivering Good’s website. Together, we can amplify this heartwarming mission.
