The kindness was recently captured in a viral TikTok video by Shea Kumar, one of the dedicated teachers at the school. “I teach refugees English, and every week, this student brings in food for the entire class,” Kumar shared. During an interview, Alabdullah fondly recalled listening to the momentous news of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon in 1969, an event conveyed to him through the crackling static of a radio in his village. He spoke with wonder about how it took months of searching before he finally saw a photograph of Armstrong on the moon.

“Now, I’m here in Ohio, and I get to visit his museum,” he said, his eyes shining with joy.

Kumar believes the viral nature of the video stems from its pure message: it reflects the goodness in humanity. Alabdullah’s simple gesture has not only enriched his classmates’ hearts but also fostered a sense of community among students from various backgrounds, including Eritrea, Somalia, and Lebanon.
