In a world where the hard work of truck drivers often goes unnoticed, one dedicated individual has recently been recognized in a truly heartwarming way. Marine Corps veteran Stacy Batiste’s journey, filled with determination and incredible accomplishments, exemplifies the spirit of service and commitment that keeps our communities moving.

Truck drivers are the backbone of our everyday lives, quietly ensuring that everything from holiday meals to fuel for road trips reaches us on time. Yet, their efforts often go unrecognized until someone like Stacy Batiste steps into the spotlight. Nominated by his best friend, Stacy was recently honored as the Road Warrior contest winner, receiving a stunning custom-built semi-truck and a generous check for $50,000.
As a seasoned trucker from Lafayette, Louisiana, Stacy has amassed over 5 million accident-free miles during his impressive 34-year career. When he learned he had won the largest prize in the contest’s history, he was understandably taken aback. “I was shocked,” he admitted with a wide smile that spoke volumes about his humility and gratitude.
Stacy credits much of his success to the discipline instilled in him during his military service. “I learned a lot from that,” he shared. “I just transitioned that into my life.” His military training not only kept him vigilant on the road but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards others. “You have to watch everyone out there,” he explained. “Sometimes, you can tell when someone is about to make a sudden move. I back off and take my time.”
The highlight of the surprise ceremony took place at a Flying J in Texas, where a waiting crowd included his family and best friend, all eager to share in the moment. The truck itself—a stunning cherry red Kenworth—was lovingly crafted by the Diesel Brothers, a perfect match for Stacy’s lifelong passion for trucking.

Stacy’s passion for the trucking industry is infectious. He not only views his job as a calling but is also dedicated to mentoring younger drivers and uplifting his local community. “I love what I do, and I can’t see myself doing anything else,” he shared. “I’m gonna ride ’til I die or they take me out of this truck; I’ve got diesel in my veins.”
His story isn’t just unique to him, as the contest also recognized second-place winner Bobby Peeker, another Marine Corps veteran, with a $10,000 cash prize and a $25,000 donation to a charity of his choice that helps veterans. “They both exemplify the positive impact professional drivers have on and off the road,” remarked Jordan Spradling, Vice President of Transportation at Pilot Company.
