In a world where kindness often proves its worth in unexpected ways, Hunter Metzger’s story shines a light on the compassion we can find in our local communities. With a heavy heart, he faced a heartbreaking goodbye to his beloved dog, Iris. What followed was an unforgettable gesture of love from the staff at a local Texas Roadhouse, turning a sorrowful moment into one filled with warmth.

Hunter Metzger, from Ephrata, Pennsylvania, faced the devastating news that his cherished 8-year-old Great Dane, Iris, had cancer. Despite seeking treatment, the health of his loyal companion declined, leading Hunter to make the painful decision to say goodbye. But before that final appointment, he wanted to honor Iris in a beautiful way.

Determined to celebrate her life rather than mourn, Hunter organized a heartfelt farewell gathering with family and friends. They came together to pamper Iris with all her favorite treats and shower her with love, creating memories to hold onto forever. For dinner, Hunter decided to order a special meal from Texas Roadhouse—a juicy 8-ounce New York Strip steak, along with steak fries and buttered mashed potatoes.

In the special instructions for his order, Hunter poignantly wrote, “Last meal for our dog. Please prepare with love.” Upon receiving his request, Kate Weston, the kitchen manager at the Ephrata Texas Roadhouse, immediately recognized the importance of this order. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, we need to make sure that this is the best meal we’ve ever made,’” she shared. The same care and warmth that he hoped for were mirrored back by the staff.

When Hunter arrived to pick up the meal, he was met with unexpected compassion. The entire staff came out to express their condolences, offering heartfelt words and a warm embrace that took him by surprise. The receipt wasn’t just a slip of paper; it included a sincere apology for his loss, signed by the caring members of the kitchen staff. To top it all off, they wrote “made with love” in red marker on the to-go container, a touch that brought tears to Hunter’s eyes.

“It just blew us away,” Metzger recalled, reflecting on the heartwarming experience. Later that night, as he prepared to say goodbye to Iris, the kindness he felt only deepened his gratitude. The next morning, he discovered that Texas Roadhouse had also refunded his meal—a gesture that showcased their empathy and respect.

Hunter decided to share this touching story on a local Facebook page, and it quickly resonated with the community. Many celebrated Texas Roadhouse as a beloved institution, highlighting their commitment to treating customers like family. The company representatives expressed pride in their team’s response, emphasizing the values of empathy and humanity they strive to uphold.
