In a groundbreaking agreement, the leaders of Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala have announced the establishment of a “biocultural” reserve that spans the historic lands of the ancient Mayan empire. This initiative aims to safeguard one of the largest intact tropical rainforests in the Americas, a lush area teeming with life and history.

The Maya Region stretches over millions of acres, weaving through southern Mexico and parts of Central America. This vibrant landscape is not just a home to breathtaking temple pyramids and yet-to-be-explored ruins, but also shelters countless species, including majestic jaguars, timid tapirs, and the vibrant quetzal birds.
