In a world where business often feels disconnected from nature, the Forests Forward program shines a light on the incredible possibilities of corporate responsibility. By uniting influential companies and conservation efforts, this initiative showcases the power of collaboration for a greener future.
Four years ago, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) embarked on an ambitious journey with their Forests Forward program, determined to combat deforestation and improve forest management around the globe. Partnering with 26 global companies, this initiative is making waves by benefiting vast areas of forest—about 15,000 square miles, which is equivalent to the entire nation of Switzerland.
With well-known names like Nike, Costco, HP, PepsiCo, and Procter & Gamble stepping up, it’s clear that corporate leadership can be a beacon of hope for our planet. These companies understand that maintaining healthy forests is not just essential for preserving nature but also for sustaining their business futures.
The commitment is striking: seven million acres of forest are either certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or are on track toward certification. This level of dedication highlights a major shift—corporations are not only sourcing responsibly but are also active participants in supporting conservation projects worldwide. Nearly three million acres, including some of the most vulnerable landscapes and tropical rainforests, are receiving vital attention.
“Now more than ever, companies recognize the connection between thriving forests and successful businesses,” remarked Linda Walker, a senior director at WWF-US. Her words reflect the growing understanding that responsible action is key to a sustainable future.

These companies are engaging in a variety of ways: from responsible sourcing to enhancing forest management practices and funding critical projects that benefit both nature and local communities. Dr. Kirsten Schuijt, director general of WWF International, emphasized that innovative solutions are proving that preserving forests offers endless benefits and is a smart business move.
