US Government Calls for Limits on Google’s Search Power Ahead of AI Advances

Email :9

Google is facing a legal battle as the US government pushes for the company to sell its popular Chrome web browser. The Department of Justice argues that Google’s dominance in online searches is set to grow with the use of artificial intelligence. The case revolves around a ruling from last year that found Google guilty of maintaining an illegal monopoly online.

Assistant Attorney General Gail Slater emphasized the importance of the case, stating that the future of the internet is at stake. Google, on the other hand, believes the US government is overstepping by suggesting a spinoff of Chrome and possibly the sale of its Android operating system. The company asserts that the proposed remedies are excessive and beyond the court’s decision.

In a separate case, Google recently lost a legal battle where a judge ruled it held a monopoly in the online ad technology market. The federal government and several states accused Google of unlawfully dominating digital advertising sectors. The judge agreed that Google had built an illegal monopoly in certain areas but dismissed some of the allegations.

These legal challenges could potentially lead to Google being split up and having its power reduced. The company, however, has stated it will appeal the decisions. The outcomes of these cases could have a significant impact on Google’s future and its role in the technology industry.
